Assalamualkum. The other day I was listening to a programme on BBC about the expansion of Islamic Banking in Britain. There the reporter questioned a devoted christian man, who had opened account in an Islamic Bank, why he had done so? The man answered that traditional interests are also prohibited in Christianity but that most  christians are unaware of it. How true is it? Is there any reference in the Holy Books.

Traditional interest? what do you mean?

It Is wrong for a christian to put interest on a loan. I know that, though I cant remember where. I'm sure its in the New Testament.

heres a similar siduation. Jesus was outraged and knocked over tables of people selling things and the money-changers infront of the temple. Back then a coin without a pagan idol was uncommon so the money changers traded (or sold) the idoless coins for far more then they were worth. This was because they had to pay in "pure" coins for a sacrifice of atonement. so I guess they had to buy an animal. Both I guess jesus hated because it meant you had to buy your salvation and was an abomination to God

If the Bible has to be obeyed and followed, interest can be charged to outsiders or aliens and foreigners but interest cannot be charged to anyone in the tribe or the community of same faith.

The Good Book says that the Jews shall not charge other Jews any interest. Since not an iota of the law was changed, Christians should not charge interest on money loaned to Christians or Jews. But they can charge Muslims and others, a profitable rate under the clause of aliens and foreigners.

On an interesting note:

I know that in Dante's Inferno, there were parts of hell reserved for those who dealt in interest.

When discussing about Jews or Christians and the Bible, one should always specify which Bible is thought of.

The Jews follow the Tanakh (OT) and Christians the New Testament.

The latter are not concerned by the laws of the OT, since despite it is said that not "an iota of the Law is changed" there is also plenty that has been changed.
But of course one has to read all the NT, not only one sentence of it.
