Bismillah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem

I know the Qur'an was complied by those who had memorized the revelations of Muhammad (pbuh), but how was it organzied? That is how did one know what to put first, second etc.  I am assuming it is not written in the order by which it was revealed. The Bible is sort of written in sequence. But I don't think the qur'an is written that way????

It is written in sequence. But when compiled the chapters (suras) were put in an order different then sequence I think it was an order of length to makeit easier for those who read but we know the sequence they were revealed in and everything so no worries and Allah knows best.

btw heres some very nice recitations:

Salaam
Bismillah
Both the order of the ayat within each sura and the arrangement of the suras were finally determined by the Prophet (saw) under guidance from the Angel Gabriel in the year of his death, when Gabriel twice came to revise the text with him.

Scholars have also grouped the suras into four kinds:

  • al-tiwal (long ones): 2-10.
  • al-mi'un: suras with approximately 100 ayat: 10-35.
  • al-mathani: suras with less than 100 ayat: 36-49.
  • al-mufassal: the last section of the Qur'an beginning with Sura qaf: 50-114.

When it comes to memorization generally it is the last part with smaller surahs to start off with.

(Take the above with a grain of salt as I got it from Rachid Khalifa's site.)

*****Another possibly helpful article - "AUTHENTICITY OF THE QUR'AN
AND HOW IT CAME TO BE WRITTEN"

http://www.al-islam.com/articles/articles-e.asp?fname=Q_S002

One paragraph reads: "the 114 Surahs were arranged in decreasing order
of length; there were nevertheless exceptions. The chronological
sequence of the Revelation was not therefore respected. In the majority of
cases however, this sequence is known. A large number of descriptions
are mentioned at several points in the text, sometimes giving rise to
repetitions. Very frequently a passage will add details to a description
that appears elsewhere in an incomplete form. Everything connected with
modern science is, like many subjects dealt with in the Qur'an, scattered
throughout the book without any semblance of classification."

Again, I am simply cutting-and-pasting info from the internet and have
no scholarly (zero) qualifications, Kay. So, a disclaimer of sorts.

Everyone have a deep and prayerful Friday,

Jamal Morelli

in the end he was killed by one of his followers in 1990, very tragic end. he also scammed the libyian and egyptian governments since he worked for them as a chemist then left to America and suddenly claimed he is the Messiah, the Christ, and Gods prophet. He knows how to blend in with the rest of the Muslims. He was also charged with rape and he and his followers have many sites on the internet which seem they are made by normal Muslims and in the site they would say "Christ did so and so" and naturally we would asume its Jesus peace be upon him but they mean this guy. This is what prophet Mohammmed warned of, 30 people (not 100% sure of the number) who would come after him and claim prophethood. So please beware of what u read and what u quote, dont follow blindly.

Salam.
