As-Salaam alaykum,
Even when it comes to crying, there is the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, that we should learn from and adopt. In his book titled 'Zad-Ul-Ma'ad', Imam Ibn Qayyim, may Allah be Merciful to him, tells us that:-- "When the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam) cried, it was similar to his laughing, without exaggeration or audible sound. Likewise, he did not weep out loud. His eyes would get tearful, until they became wet and the sound of grief could be heard from his chest. He used to cry when feeling mercy for the dead or dying, for fear and compassion for his Ummah and for fright from Allah. He cried on hearing the Qur'an being recited for eagerness, love and respect for the Qur'an, while feeling fear and fright [from Allah]." |
