Throughout the history of Mankind, God (Allah SWT) sent prophets with the same message to people (namely: 'Worship the one true God Who created you and created everything, and to Whom you will return')... and He generally equipped His prophets and messengers with 'evidence' and 'miracles' that were relevant to those times, people and places.

At the time of Moses (PBUH), magic and illusions were widespread... so Allah SWT equipped Moses (PBUH) with 9 miracles, including a stick (staff) that can change into a huge snake (Qur'an [27:10]), and a hand that can turn 'white' without harm (Qur'an [27:12])...etc.

And at the time of Jesus (PBUH), healing diseases and various medicines were the subject/debate of the time... so Allah SWT equipped Jesus (PBUH) with healing and other powers...etc.

At the time of Muhammad (PBUH), poetry and literature were extremely advanced/widespread among the Arabian tribes... so Allah SWT revealed a text that even the most prominent poets and leading literary figures of the time admitted that it is different and much more powerful than any poem/text/literature that they had come across before... and many of them embraced the new religion because they were overwhelmed by this miracle text/revelation... especially due to the fact that they knew the man who brought it (Muhammad pbuh) was an illiterate, truthful and trustworthy man.
