Welcome to the Board.

Actually the nice thing about many Moslems i have met is that they just let things go more then maybe other groups. Partly as in Islam there is the beleif that Allah calls who he wants. Moslems actually seem to not want to think they know everything. I think there are more unexplained mysteries then explained about life.

In an odd way havinhg grown up challenging many thoughts and ideas from  Catholicism I have no problems with people questioning things. I had big problems with the official doctrines and the Church and its concepts then anythig else. I first started when I had to "confess" my sins to the priest in a small room to the priest. Not my cup of tea.

For me I was very negative towards organized religion (still I am very cautious to say the least). But being a spiritual person and a thinking person I believe that there is something greater then I. There is something truly devine.

Most people are great on this board with some diverse people with differing anlges to take on subjects. It helps me from thinking I am always right..lol

Please feel at ease. I am living in a place where more than 50% of the population is Atheist but they have  a nicer word for that, known as Free-Thinkers.

well.....the term free thinkers is applied to most people who also believe in God . I like to refer myself as a free thinker

Angel,

Yes, you may be right in the sense that Muslims "are" free-thinkers as they have been given the freedom to think freely!

Happy Atheist Welcome!

To answer your question in short: Can most muslims tolerate atheist?

My answer: Most "Open-minded" Muslims can tolerate atheist since tolerance does not entail acceptance most open-minded some Muslims (of this breed lol) accept a person professing an atheistic belief.

Peace,

Yes.

Atheism confuses alot of Muslims here in Morocco. But we get all kinds
coming through and there is a great deal of respect, interest and
tolerance of all sorts.

Honestly, atheism doesn't quite register with more than a few folks.
"Kafir" while implying that one is ungrateful or turning from the Divine
never suggests that God doesn't exist, that there is no God, etc.

On the other hand, we have some big time Nietzsche fans here - my first
Quranic teacher was one of them - living right here in conservative
Muslim Fes.

Pleased to meet you, H.A.,
Peace,

Jamal Morelli
