Therapy is done in person. Your friend needs to find a local psychologist for his depression treatment.

Perhaps he should take an opinion from another doctor. Maybe the drug combinations are causing depression. Also diet and exercise may prove helpful. Allah bless him with patience and good health.

Sorry to hear about the problems that your friend is undergoing. Depression and especially in this current economic climate that we are in has become a common phenomenon. The cure to it and what may help a person greatly is by them getting closer to ALLAH by doing all the obligatory acts of worship, especially praying all the Five Salah on time and with due care is a must. Also reading the Quran and contemplating on its verses and realizing that this world is just temporary will help greatly.

Getting the advice of a second doctor (with a medical degree from a good university) is a very good idea. The medication for heart palpitation is most likely not causing the depression. If the second doctor prescribes an antidepressant, the condition might already improve after a few weeks. If therapy is an option too, that's great.
