Tribalism or culture?

Anyway, people mix culture and Islam and come up with their own hotch potch. So it is bound to affect some Islamic countries.

some of us are a lot like cement:- all mixed up and permanently set

Often it's not "culture" alone that contributes to that "hotch potch". From what I've seen it's a mixture of Islam not ever being properly introduced into the land, lack of prominant alims, cultural habits from before Islam, cultural habits from after Islam, inovations in Islam, and the us and them attitude not only between National Versions of Islam  but also between sectorial and reginal versions of Islam.

It's funny that you mention "Islam not ever being properly introduced into the land," because even the earliest of Muslim countries seem somehow far from practicing Islam properly.

In Syria you see trash everywhere and men smoking everywhere and people eating while they walk - they're Arab more than Muslim! How long have these people been Muslim? Since the Rashidin!
