One reason why we should avoid the western outlook on the issue of women is that in this outlook, women are a means for satisfying lust. This is undeniable. If someone makes this claim, some people may create uproar. They may say, No, this is not the case. However, when one takes a look at their lives, one sees that this is the dominant outlook. In social environments, the more women appear in an immodest way, the more appropriate it will be.
They do not have the same opinion about men. In official meetings, men should dress up. They should wear ties and suits. They should dress formally on such occasions. But in these formal meetings, women should appear in a different way. This has no other philosophy and reason except that women should entertain mens lustful eyes. Today, the western world is like this. It is practically the greatest oppression which the western world shows towards women. I am not after finding newspaper clippings. But it was yesterday or the day before yesterday that I found something in a newspaper. I found it to be a very important writing. I have brought it to this meeting to read it for you. A book written by Jimmy Carter the former president of America has been published which is named A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, And Power. Jimmy Carter says in this book, Every year, 100,000 girls are sold as slaves in America where the owner of a brothel can buy girls who are usually Latin American or African at only 1000 dollars. He also refers to the rapes which occur in colleges where only one case out of 25 cases is reported. He goes on to say that only one percent of rapists are put to trial in the army. One cries when one reads such things. We can see many such writings in newspapers. I see such writings as well, but I never base my opinions on them. However, these are realities. Jimmy Carter is a well-known personality after all and this is his book. What kind of situation is this? What kind of respect towards women is this? This is a very misguided speech by someone who does not have clear understanding.
Three things I notice 1. Why are Imams so preoccupied with speaking about way of life of others, and against others? Why are they always speaking 'against'? Why can't they just speak of what is good? They spend more time putting down others than in presenting their own good. If what they present is good, people will be drawn to it... no need to put down others. 2. Who are these men who gave their lives as martyrs that he is referring to? What war has Iran been sending men into? 3. Mr. Carter's book in no way "tries to pretend that prostitution is a dignified job." Mr. Carter is very much involoved in the battle to put an end to such things... to sex trafficking. This is the reason he wrote the book... to raise peoples awareness of the problem... not to "dignify" it. That remark really disturbed me. and the whole thing about equality between men and women and why should women be given equal opportunity.... can you tell me that there are not some men that are better suited to cooking than their wives... some men who have greater interest and do a better job at it... and just as there are some women better cut out to be doctors and nurses than staying at home and only cleaning and cooking? Why should each not be able to follow what their own God given interests lead them to? Some men are better at being home... some women are better at going out to work. Why should each not be able to chose what they are best at? It is discrimination to deny any person the ability to follow their God given interests and strengths... and hardly justice based, or justifiable. and on the following subject, he has such little understanding... amazingly little, considering that he should be a well informed person. Women in the western countries went to work in the factories because of war(well in the United States anyway, perhaps Britain has a different history, but Britain was drawn into WWI much more so than the U.S. was, so I can't really say what the factors affecting them were)... in the United States, the men were off fighting in war, with large numbers that did not come home after the war due to deaths, and the factories at home needed workers. Women needed work, when their men died and they no longer had someone to provide for them. This is where change begins... the liberation of women from the home. Once they found themselves in the workplace doing what felt useful in a time of need, and once they began to earn their own paychecks, they began to discover the freedom that went with it... the freedom to choose their own path in life and not be dependent on men... men who often treated them badly, but they had previously had no other way to survive or exist. Women found that they could do a 'man's work'. (I can see where some men might feel threatened by this) I am astounded to hear a speech like this still being made in the year 2014. (especially in what once was the hub of the Persian empire, and a country which I consider to be highly educated and advanced) I suppose it is the difference of not having encountered the needs and conditions that have brought about certain changes... i.e., progress, in other countries. Now I am not saying that all that change is necessarily good, but I do think people need to be free to choose for themselves how they are happiest living their lives... whether inside, or outside, of the home suits them best... and that these things ought not to be dictated to them by some person who thinks they have superior knowledge of what is best for everyone else. Encouraging men and women to embrace their respective roles is not a bad thing, but imposing restrictions that force them into roles that may not be well suited to them individually... this is taking away the free-will given by God to make their own choices. I think another reason why the role of women in the West is changing is the fact that now many marriages are breaking down. The main reason being that MEN know that he will find another woman so easily to set up home with then when he gets bored again then he can just move to the next woman.
