I don't think anyone wanted Al-Zarqawi stopped any more than I.  However, God alone is the judge, so I don't think we can make blanket statements about where Zarqawi is in eternity....we can make assumptions, but God is the one who decides.

I believe (for many biblical reasons) that God calls to all persons at the moment of death, and if they accept him and repent at this very moment God will grant even the lowest of all human beings, mercy.  We do not, and cannot, know the last thoughts or feelings in the heart of any dying person.

I guess the example from my religion would be the thief dying on the cross beside Jesus (for those of you who do not believe this, it has no meaning, but is just the example I will use).  Anyway, the thief said to Jesus, "remember me when thou comest into thy Kingdom", and Jesus replied to him, "today thou shalt be with me in paradise".....which says to me that God can take the lowliest of human sinners to paradise IF the sinner acknowledges God as God and repents.

Just my personal opinion.  Al-Zarqawi was a horribly sinful person and a slaughterer of innocent people.  He was still, however, a human being.......and that is why I believe it's all up to God.

Peace be with you.....

Just for the records.

This is not the position of Quran. When the last moment comes it is already too late. Example pharoah believed in his last moments in the God of Moses but his belief was rejected by God.

Reference [10:90-92]

********************

We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to God)."
(It was said to him): "Ah now!- But a little while before, wast thou in rebellion!- and thou didst mischief (and violence)!
"This day shall We save thee in the body, that thou mayest be a sign to those who come after thee! but verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Signs!"

Thanks for sharing this with me smanzoor.  I had never really known the Islamic belief on this subject.  It was kind of you to point out the difference to me.

Peace be with you....
