Dear Lamplighter, I wouldn't laugh at that. I am trying to make a point that egg-shaped is not being mentioned in that verse. Let me give an example in English: 1. Egg 2. Egg them on (Is there anything to do with the egg here?) If you take what he told you,"So Udhuwwa = Dahyaat....= Dahya...", you would still not get dahaha. BR BMZ

Expansion is also correct but to me more precise translation of the ayath` in English will be: And after that (He) spreaded out the earth. Here it does not speaks about shape of the earth like your friend said. Rather the crust being spreaded for life to come into existence. Like we spread carpet to sit or to walk on. This was done so that vegitation and life at large may be made possible on the planet. In the very next ayath` you may observe it. Expanded earth is not wrong as it is a synonym but if taken in the meanings as spread out. Rather figurative expansion. Expanded is used frequently for spreading a thing already in shape. It is even then right and the same but sometimes becomes harder to comprehend for people having superficial knowledge of Quran and that too by translation as many of them dont know arabic. Earth was there but its creation was not complete before crust expansion (as it seems today). It got completed with crust expansion. I hope this helps.

The word daHaahaa is actually two words daHaa+haa: the verb daHaa (he spread out) and haa which is the feminine pronoun for earth, suffixed to the verb as if you write in English "he spreadit". Earth is feminine in Arabic. Edited by Cyril |
