Hi All, I started tutoring a 14 year-old Saudi Arabian boy in English last night. Apparently he has an English exam coming up that is run by the Saudi government. He has a text book that is obviously from Saudi Arabia - it has pictures of men and women in their traditional garb and cute stories like (in summary): "I cooked dinner last night using my sister's recipe book. I rolled and mixed and baked but the dinner tasted funny because there was too much salt in it. My father gave me a big smile so I realised that it's ok to try but fail." Very cute. However, there was a question in the chapter about making appointments and visiting the doctor and that sort of thing, that asks something like: "before visiting the doctor do you pray to Allah for help or do you give charity?" Which one is it? I assume you are meant to pray, assuming that you might not be rich enough to give to charity. :) Ta, Kim...

Very cute Kim I am not very sure, as this had never been a custom in my family but my guess is one shld be giving away in charity before the visit. You dont have to be rich in pocket, instead at heart to give away in charity .... I think Peace ta ya ... Nausheen Edited by Nausheen |

I think? Nauseen, I know. When the Palestinian town of Hares was under
siege. Some friends of mine "borrowed" a bunch of trucks with Israeli plates to bring in dry goods Baby formula and bottled water. The people of the town met us in the street with food and drink they had prepared them selves. This was all they had for themselves and their families. This was the moment I understood the basics of Islam. |

You should pray to Allah asking for good news but you should also give to charity as a sign of good faith. I think?
