Islamic Months - Rajab

Rajab

Rajab is the 7th Month in the Islamic Lunar calendar. This month was regarded as one of the sacred months in which battles were prohibited in the days of the Holy Prophet (SAW). It is also deemed as a prelude to the month of Ramadhan, because Ramadhan follows it after the intervening month of Shabaan. Therefore, when the Holy Prophet sighted the moon of Rajab, he used to pray to Alah in the following words :

O Allah, make the months of Rajab and Shabaan blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadhan (i.e. prolong our life upto Ramadhan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings).

Although the month of Rajab has these merits, yet no specific way of worship has been prescribed by the Shariah in this month. There are no special days of fasting or Ibadah in this month or any night of this month. One can keep nafl fasts , like in other months (i.e monday & thursday, etc). Shariah has not prescribed any specific way to observe the month of Rajab or to perform a specific mode of worship or a ritual on any one of its dates.

27th night of Rajab - Lailatul Miraj - this was when the Holy Prophet (SAW) ascended to the heavens to meet Allah.
