As-salaam aleykum,

Can anyone please help...

I read (Divine Sayings, Hirtenstein p 10) that the Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim were transmitted to Ibn 'Arabi (d 1240) by certain sheikhs. Presumably the written texts would have been available to Ibn 'Arabi, so what is involved in 'transmission' of the ahadith?

Would memorisation of eg the Sahih Bukhari or individual prophetic ahadith involve recital or is it only hadith qudsi that are recited such as this:
