Salaams,

Welcome to the Forum.

It is great you want to learn about Islam.. we are here for you.

What do you want to  learn about? You need to take on things gradually at the speed you are able to.

First and foremost I would say learn about Islam for YOU. Not for anyone else. If being a Muslim is about doing it for this man, it can really mix you up! It is good that he wants you to learn.

A good place to read articles about women is: http://jannah.org/sisters/ - http://jannah.org/sisters/

Islam is about finding your path to Allah- your Creator. Marriage is ONE aspect of how to live in this life to get to jannah-heaven.  Are YOU wanting this information for YOU?  Do you enjoy learning about Islam etc.

The man is right that you should lern more BEFORE You enter marriage. You need to be strong in both becmonig a Muslim and entering into marriage.

Maybe read the articles or read threads here and ask questions... it takes awhile to digest it all.

I would really, really caution you on gettig married until you know alot more about Islam. In Islam there are responsibilites and rights for both men and women. It can be a bit different than what we may be used to. I'd makesure to know and feel comfortable before marrying.

Asalamu Alaikum Sister

May Allah protect you and guide you, and Alhamdulilah that you desire to learn !!! I can understand my situation was that once i took my shahada my husband was my only teacher and nobody in our community reached out to me. So Alhamdulilah i read books, got on the computer, listened to tapes and cd's and dvd's. At times my Iman was low but I ask Allah to help me and guide me. August makes 4yrs. since i took my shahada and i dont regret it at all even when im low. Keep your self close with Allah and he will make it happen for you. Insha Allah.

Smile Salamu alaikum Sister,

I'm sorry for your worry and sadness.  I am a new revert as well.  I have a lecture that talks about the rights of the woman over her husband.  One of those rights is that he must educate you.  If you are not educated on Islam you will be open to all kinds of fitnah.  When I came to Islam I had no one really.  I learned through books and lectures.  Don't be afraid to ask other sisters at the masjid for help.  I know sometimes it can seem like your alone even amongst the sisters when you go to the masjid, like me, especially cuz i'm so shy.  But I believe that if you try, someone will definitely lend you a helping hand Insha Allah.  Have you spoke to your husband or asked him questions about things you want to know or are not sure about?  Maybe you could find out if one of your local masjids have some classes, many of them do.  May I suggest to you "An-Naw Awis 40 Hadith", also look for a book on Muslim Ettiquettes, Salat, and read your Qur'an for guidance.  P.S. Make sure what you read is valid, you would want to make sure its not "bida" (innovation), make sure it is backed up w/Qur'an & or Hadith.  "Every innovation is a going astray and every going astray leads to the hellfire".   You can email me @ lotusdfind at  gmail dot com.  I'm happy to help you with any questions, I'm not saying I know everything, but I have studied a lot.  Also, much of Islam is about seeking elm (knowlegde) and defining your heart in the circles of knowledge.  Good luck and Asalamu  Alaikum, don't hesitate to contact me sister.Smile

salamu alaykom wa rachmatullah wa barakatuh,
dear sister I have converted 5 years ago. the way to know Islam and study deen is very interesting and full of emotions.
it is good if you find a masgid close to you, but remember muslim people are never perfect, so try to learn Allah words in Quran, and Hadith. Listen to other muslim helping you but don't forget we are not perfect and even muslim have lot of dayly problems as other humans, and they can be wrong sometimes.
In my opinion is very important ro read about islam, and read Quran.
Learn how to pray, begin from Al Fatiha, it will help you so much.
May Allah love you forever,
Aicha.
Salamu alaykom wa rachmatullah wa barakatuh.
