I was wonderin, how does one see the signs of the Du'aa of Istikhaarah.  some say it will be a dream, but if any one of you have any knowledge on this please share it with me.  Thank you.

Br. you know, when there's a mixed gathering we need not separate non-muslims. A common greeting is sent over all.

 

As far as i know, its not necessary that we get to know the decision only thru  dreams. When we offer salat-ul-Isteqarah, we leave the decision over Allah swt and have complete and unquestionable trust in that decision. It happens that we may or may not see a dream. I mean, its not necessary that the one who offers salat-ul-Isteqara, see a dream.

 

It is reported in a Hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Anas, when you intend to do some important things, then seek the good (seek Istikharah) from your Lord seven times and then do that to which your heart (or mind) is inclined, because the good is in it."

 

This hadith explains us that untill our heart gets inclined over a decision, we are to do isteqarah. This means, we need not wait for dreams. If we feel happy towards a decision, we shud go for it. Moreover, if that decision is bad for us , as Allah swt is the All-Knower, then Allah swt stops us from it. You remember the last lines of that dua !

 

 O Allah, if You know this thing (I am embarking on)  is good for me in my religion, worldly life, and my ultimate destiny, then facilitate it for me, and then bless me in my action. If, on the other hand, You know this thing is detrimental for me in my religion, worldly life, and ultimate destiny, turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree what is good for me, wherever it may be, and make me content with it.

 

Look into that which is highlighted bold. This way, if its good for us, Allah swt shall facilitate it for us. And if its not, Allah swt will turn away from it. So just move on with the decision you strongly feel inclined with.

 

Allah swt knows the best

 

 

 

 

People usually wait for obvious signs or colors in thier dreams, this is not so. Unless the dream is very clear - one should go for what the heart is inclined towards. One could keep doing istikhaara until something happens. . . The dua is self explanatory - after Istikhara, whatever happens - assume it is good from Allah.

 

Interpreting Isymbols and signs in istikhaara dreams can be very subjective - so just trust in Allah and follow your heart (and brain) after doing Istikhaara.

What does this mean? do you have to recite the dua 7 times? or do you have to do 7, 2 rakat prayers?  and also can you say the dua before giving sallam or do you have to do it after you give sallam?

 

Sorry for the amount of questions, but I want to learn everything I possibly can about this Amazing Dua.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

 

You are welcome with "n" number of questions, young muslim. If we possess knowledge of that question, we shall surely answer, insha Allah. You shud n't hesistate to question untill you get cleared with the answer. I very much appreciate your approach.

 

If we are not sure of our decision even after Isteqarah, then we are repeat it for 7 times. We are to offer just 2 rakat everytime. Dua shud be read after salam.

 

And the one you asked sis Chrysallis, at hathal {hazal} amr, you need to specify your intention of isteqarah. and continue with khayrul lee fee deneee --

Am sharing a hadith below, which has in its bracket {after the prayer}.

 

The Prophet Muhammad said, "If one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about making plans for a journey, he should perform two cycles (rak'atain) of voluntary prayer." Then he/she should say the following du'a:----

 

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Quran. He said, "If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer): 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, Wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, Wa asaluka min fadlika al-'azim Fa-innaka taqdiru Wala aqdiru, Wa ta'lamu Wala a'lamu, Wa anta 'allamu l-ghuyub. Allahumma, in kunta ta'lam anna hadha-l-amra Khairun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati amri (or 'ajili amri wa'ajilihi) Faqdirhu li wa yas-sirhu li thumma barik li Fihi, Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha-lamra shar-run li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati amri (or fi'ajili amri wa ajilihi) Fasrifhu anni was-rifni anhu. Waqdir li al-khaira haithu kana Thumma ardini bihi.
