O.K. Let's talk about garlic, also many benefits. I try to get 3 raw pieces a day, anyone else out there taking garlic daily?

Assalamu alaikum,

I love garlic - I put it in almost every dish I make!  But, I never eat it raw - makes for stinky breath .  (You can get garlic tablets from health food store - same benefits, better breath!)

My favorite is to take a whole 'head' of garlic, just barely cut through the tips of the cloves, drizzle with olive oil and wrap in foil (or use a garlic baker if you have one).  Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, until garlic is soft.  Squish out cloves onto bread or toast (or anything) - heavenly flavour!

I have also made baked whole chicken with 40 (yes, forty!) cloves of garlic tucked in and around it - the taste is unbelievable - the aroma exquisite, but, of course, garlic breath for several days!!!

Peace, ummziba.

Bismillah

Assalamu'alaikum. Hope you don't mind me peeping into your kitchen, dear Sisters.

Swiss hunters consumed garlic to help boost immune system within a very short period of time before their hunting trips in winter. They took it raw (chopped into medium sized pieces) with water, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach consistently for a period of one to one and a half week. While it may boost immune system one must be aware that it can be damaging to a sensitive, weak or untrained stomach.

There are also some precautions to be taken from the teachings of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him:

It  has  been  narrated  that `Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) said in the sermon of Friday prayer: "O you people! You eat garlic and onion. I think the odour of these to be very offensive. I saw that if the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) happened to find a man with such offensive odour in the mosque, he would order him to be taken out of the mosque and sent to Al-Baqi`. He who wants to eat any of these, should cook them till their odour dies out.
[Muslim].

Khabith generally means impure, base and wicked, but it is also used in the sense of Haram (unlawful), that is for eatables which are forbidden or which have an unpleasant and disgusting smell. Garlic, onion etc., are Khabith in their raw form and Muslims have been prohibited from going to the mosque after eating them. One can, however, eat them in their cooked form. One can also use them when the time to go to mosque for Salat is not very near. We also learn from this Hadith that one should not eat any such odorous thing when he has to go to the mosque or Madrasah or any congregation for some religious purpose because it will be repulsive for the people present there. Their eating is, however, permissible even in their raw form, if one is not going to the mosque for Salat.

We also learn from this Hadith that mosques should be kept free from every kind of filth and odorous things. There is no justification for the construction of toilets in the premises of mosque. Mosques which have toilets within their compounds must be divested of the toilets to purge them of the unclean environments.

Bismillah

Wa'alaikumu salaam.

Sister Ummziba, my mouth waters as i read through your recipes... and i can almost feel flavours of the spices... ummmh.

That chicken you mentioned, i was once advised to "massage" some mayonnaise into it moderately before baking... and it came out with a shiny, very juicy crunch. Some parts of the world chickens are not as burly so this trick helps.

I'm gonna experiment in the kitchen and try something from your list.

Jazzak Allahu khair.

Assalamu alaikum,

Thank you Brother Mockba, I do hope you enjoy your cooking experiments.  I love to cook and I especially love to see the reaction of those who eat my labours!  I am sure that my dear husband married me for my cooking abilities, a wise choice for a man who enjoys food so much!  Alahamdulillah for the skills the Creator grants to each of us!

Sister ummsaleh, thanks for the tip - I grow peppermint in my garden for tea, now I know another good use for it!

Peace, ummziba.

Assalamu alaikum sisters,

Another alternative is if you soak raw garlic in lemon or lime juice, it removes majority of the smell and the bitterness.

Garlic helps fight of tumors and cancer. I have read about people who have reversed cancer by taking large doses of garlic/ginger/honey/black seeds. Also my sister-in-laws mother reversed cancer by using herbal medicine and going to Makkah to perform Ummrah. I use to not believe these things (Coming from America) But after seeing it, i believe it. Just like when they talk about washing a dead body, the smell ect.I never believed until i has a chance to help wash my mother in law(god bless her). It was unbelieveable. The signs were there.

I think that hot spicy foods increase the metoblism. Flax seeds helps in weight loss. Try it; never hurts.
