AsSalam Alaykoum Brothers and Sisters

Wishing you all a blessed Ramadan , hoping Allah (SWT) helps us to do the best , and accepts it from us

There's something that's been puzzling me

At times ( especially when traveling , which I am right now) there're no fee based public wireless networks for internet access where I am at

But if you search for networks, there're many open networks , which you can connect to and use
I know these are individual's networks , whom they left open, whether intentionally , or just because of their lack of knowledge they should password protect it ( does anyone still do this ? )

The question is whether using these networks is permissible

So I don't know if I can use it or not , especially when it's important to have internet access while traveling

I don't know who's the owner of the network , if would be much easier if I could find out and just pay them for using it , but there's no way I know of to find out who's the owner and contact them

Maybe I can find out the cost of internet connection and donate it to some organization , with the intentions it's on the owner's behalf ?

What do you think anyways ? Can we use it , or not ? and why ?

Would it be similar to if someone turned on their lights, and you stood outside the window reading on their light

Does anyone know if there're any fatwa's regarding this matter ?

Jazakum Allah Khayra

AsSalam Alaykoum

Walaikum Salam wa Rahmatullah,

As far as i know, here at ICF none of us hold the eligibility to give fatwa / ruling. I suggest you to kindly contact any scholar/sheikh. Kindly do share that answer here, insha Allah, shall be helpful to most of us and rewarding to you as well.
