I was with a brother who reverted, some years ago. Lets call him X in this story

I took him to mosque, there we meet brother from Lebanon. Lets call him Y.

After salah we were talking, topic about heritage came up.
Brother X was saying how his german parents don't like him.
Then all of sudden Brother Y goes like: really? actually my mother' side is Irish/scottish. ( there was a pause as he was thinking which race to choose from)

On top of that he had typical arab characteristic.

This is not one instance, I had same encounter with other arabs who try to be "Italian".

When I call them out on it, they get pissed, like calling them arab is like abusing them.

Is this prevalent in arab countries? why you guys try to hide your identities?

If "X" has comfortably assimilated into his new cultural environment, then why insist upon him acting otherwise?  It's ok to let him be one of the guys isn't it?  Even though his characteristics are different.  Why "call them out" anyway?  What's the point?

Hi ak_m_f,

I think that there is something like a heritage crisis or identity crisis between the second generation immigrants, or at least that what they are studying here in Spain.

They feel really away from what their parents are, despite they respect them (most of the times), and they show it rejecting their origins.

I saw it lot of times between Latinamerican or Moroccan immigrants, so I know what are you talking about.

I feel it like a lack of maturity, I don't think they mean anything bad. So just excuse them and show them that you are proud of your origins.

Regards,
Patricia
