A brief biography of the Shaykh

Shaykh Yaqub Abdurrahman was both born and raised in the Midwestern United States and his dissatisfaction with the status quo instigated a deep desire to find the truth, and as there was no Muslim community in the area that he lived, he would travel to other communities in order to become familiar with Muslims and Islam until he was finally guided to Islam at the age of 19.

He then began an intensive study of this beautiful religion and within a short period of time felt great inspiration and inclination to tread on the path of the Sacred Sciences.  Upon consultation with the local Muslim fraternity, he was directed to South Africa were with the tawfiq of Allah enrolled on a comprehensive six-year Aalim course at the Dar al-Ulum al-Arabiyyah al-Islamiyyah Institute under the guidance and supervision of Shaikh Taha Karan and other respected faculty (may Allah reward them all)  At the institute he found himself most at home within the vast library and would spend many hours reading classical texts, and only then did he begin to realize the vast depths of Islamic scholarship while appreciating the classical legacy and heritage.

Upon graduating, he participated in further studies and research, while also spending time on the research and writing of fatawa.  Shaykh Yaqub was also requested to teach at the institute and his specialist focus was Shafiee Fiqh and Usool al-Hadith.

Presently, Shaikh Yaqub resides in Egypt where he continues personal research in specialist areas of interest, while also enjoying a land rich in Islamic history and heritage. He strongly values the need for more classical education for todays Muslims, with a specific focus on improving access to high quality Islamic Education to English speakers.
