CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is an organization that has a lot of visibility in the U.S. From what I can tell it's seen as a meaningful, mainstream organization.
Here is their mission statement:
VISION AND MISSION
CAIR's vision is to be a leading advocate for justice and mutual understanding.
CAIR's mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

I have read almost the entire website, and I have written to them and received no response. (Not surprisingly.)
It seems to me that CAIR should include a public statement, clearly and concisely declaring that they will oppose any actions intended to promote Sharia in the U.S.
Why don't they make this clear? This topic seems to cause them endless amounts of time and expense to try to manage.
------------- Peace through mutual understanding
