Professor Shaykh Abdul Ali Hamid is an eminent scholar and educator with over 30 years of experience teaching various disciplines within the Islamic Sciences. At an early age Prof. Ali developed a deep love for acquiring knowledge which eventually saw him traveling to Middle East and Africa. Shaykh Ali earned his MA in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University as well an MA in Arabic Language from American University in Cairo. He earned his PhD in Islamic Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. Shaykh Ali studied with various eminent scholars for over a decade and acquired in-depth understanding of classical Arabic language and literature, Qur�an, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh (jurisprudence) and Seerah. In the course of his in-depth studies he acquired Ijazaat (scholarly licenses to teach) in most of the major classical Islamic texts including some of the most extensive collections.
Some of Shaykh Ali�s Ijazaat(licenses to teach) include Arabic Language and Qur�an, Tafsir (commentaries of the Qur�an) (Tafsir of Jalalyn, Al-Nasafi, Al-Baydawi, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Imam Al-Tabari's Jami-ul-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Quran, Al-Kashaaf by Al-Zamakhshari, Al-Tafseer Al-Kabeer by Al-Razi and Jami' Al-Ahkaam by Al-Qurtubi), Hadith collection (Bulugh al-Maram min Adillat al-Ahkam, Mishkat al-Masabih, Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan an-Nasa'i al-Sughra, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Maja,Sunan al-Bayhaqi), Fiqh(Islamic Jurisprudence) and Comparative Fiqh. Due to his extraordinary command of the Sciences of Hadith Shaykh Ali was asked to lead the effort to investigate and re-categorize the Hadith Collection Sunan al-Bayhaqi.
Over two dozen of his articles in Hadith, Tafsir and Fiqh were published in various national and international theological and academic journals. He played an extensive role in the course design and material selections for many of Islamic Sciences courses offered at Rawiya College. He also serves as a mentor/point of reference to many prominent Western Islamic scholars. Currently Prof. Ali was a professor of Islamic Studies at the University of London(retired).
