assalamualaikum muslim friends I have seen that in the discussion forum of religion Islam, the name of the messengers of Allah has been written. But I would like to tell that by the side of the name of messenger of Allah, we should also write 'peace be upon him'. And by the side of name of Prophet Muhammad ( may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him ), we should write 'may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him'. insha Allah take the required action. Allah hafiz. |

Bismillah, You know, Brother Salman, the intent to respect our beloved messengers and prophets and leaders in Islaam is clear in that post. Intention matters tremendously in Islaam. Please don't imply that the poster meant disrespect, because they obviously did not. It is common and standard in the Arab world to add those things in order to show respect, but it is not a sin to leave them off when respect is otherwise implied and understood. ------------- Al-Hamdulillah (From a Married Muslimah) La Howla Wa La Quwata Illa BiLLah - There is no Effort or Power except with Allah's Will. |

Wa Alaikum Salam Thanks bro Salman for the reminder, I am guilty of leaving it out some times. Let's also remember after the names of the other Prophets we should add "Upon him be peace" I would prefer to use the Arabic transliteration and one brother in this forum pointed out to me that the English translation is not correct as there is no "blessing" in the Arabic Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam) Prophet Isa (Alayhi Salam) ------------- �Verily your Lord is quick in punishment; yet He is indeed Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful (Surah Al-An�am 6:165) "Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him is our return" (Surah Baqarah 2: 155) |

Can the silly non muslim woman inquire something? Why is it Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam for Muhammed (pbuh) and only Alayhi Salam for Isa (pbuh)????
A.) What is the translation of both? B.) I though you were not allowed to put any prophet above another, so why the difference? Peace, Angie |

Not a silly question, no question is silly.
I often wondered why the difference � although I don�t have the original fatawa on hand this is the explanation I received. Firstly all the other Prophets (Alayhum Salam) were sent to a particular nation whereas Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) was sent to all mankind.
Secondly we are asked by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta�ala in the Glorious Qur'an to send Salams (greetings) upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam)
Allah sends His Salah (Blessings, greetings, honor) on the Prophet, and also His angels (do so). O you who believe! Send your Salah on him, and greet him with Taslim. (greeting with great respect) Surah Al-Ahzab 33:56
I am not sure about the correct translation of these phrases myself Like brother Salman I always thought that it meant �Allah�s Peace and blessing be upon him� And for Alayhi Salam the meaning I know is �upon him be peace.�
One brother in this forum pointed out to me in another thread that blessing is incorrect because blessing is barakah and there is no barakah in this phrase. �Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam�
Maybe Arab members or those who are fluent in Arabic can give us a better more correct translation.

The reason I asked is once I asked why Muslims place Muhammed (pbuh) above the other Prophets, the Muslim told me that it was forbidden and recently a Muslimah gave me these ayats to show what the brother was telling me. 2:285 The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His apostles. "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His apostles." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."
3:84 Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)." 4:152 To those who believe in Allah and His apostles and make no distinction between any of the apostles, we shall soon give their (due) rewards: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.

You have a very good point.
Yes we do believe in all the prophets and don�t make any distinctions but at the same time remember we only follow the teachings as laid down by prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and not the other Prophets �our allegiance is to him. We believe in them but do not follow their teachings.
In the same way we believe in all the books but only follow the teachings as laid down in the Glorious Qur'an, not the teachings as found in the Bible and Taurat.
The best thing will be for me to find the fatawa and post it here. Maybe someone else will post more information before then.
