I've noticed a discrepancy, and maybe someone could clear it up.

Isn't John the Baptists a Prophet? Are you supposed to listen to them?

John 1:26-27

26“I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands One you do not know. 27He is the One who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie."

This is the Christ, is it not?
Who else could he be speaking of? If he had spoken it outright, someone may have killed him before the cross, but by speaking this way he illuminates The Christ and informs all who Messiah is, yes?

This is Christian scripture, but did he not say this?
