اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَوَبَرَكَاتُهُ Concerning coronavirus outbreaks, especially for Muslims there are at least two causes that Allah Ta'ala doesn't send down 'adzab when in the world ie the first had gone (Rasulullah Sallallahu' alaihi wasallam), and the second was still exist until the Doomsday. Allah Ta'ala Said: وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَاَنْتَ فِيْهِمْ ۗ وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوْنَ "And Allah will not punish them as long as you (Muhammad) are among them. And neither will Allah punish them, while they (still) ask for forgiveness." (Quran 8: 33)
The verse explains about the challenges of the polytheists of Quraysh like Abu Jahal who challenged to bring 'adzab if indeed they were proven guilty. They challenge arrogantly:
وَاِذْ قَالُوا اللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَ هٰذَا هُوَ الْحَـقَّ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ فَاَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ اَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ اَ لِيْمٍ "And (remember), when they (the polytheists) say, O Allah, if (the Quran) is true (revelation) from You, then rain us with stones from heaven, or bring us a painful punishment." (Quran 8: 32)
Let's consider a person like Abu Jahal, Allah delayed His punishment, because the Prophet Muhammad Shallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam is still in their midst, so he became the cause of Allah not sent down 'adzab. That's the first reason.
Ibn Katsir quoted from the Tirmizi that the Prophet Shallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Allah has given me two safeguards or saviors for the people from 'adzab and disaster, those are my existence and Istighfar (ask for forgiveness). So when I was gone, there was still one safeguard left until the Doomsday, namely Istighfar."
Therefore, let us multiply read "istighfar" (asking forgiveness to Allah Ta'ala) because Allah Ta'ala said: وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوْنَ "And neither will Allah punish them, while they (still) ask for forgiveness." (Quran 8: 33)
Thus, when we get disasters, or conditions that are uncomfortable in our lives, there are several possible reasons. It could be Allah Ta'ala gives a test for us to be kafaroh for our sins. Or it could be that Allah Ta'ala loves us by testing us to elevate our degrees in front of Him.
Thus, multiply istighfar (asking forgiveness from Allah) in any situation and condition. The Prophet Muhammad Shallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: طُوبَى لِمَنْ وَجَدَ فِى صَحِيفَتِهِ اسْتِغْفَارًا كَثِيرًا “It is really fortunate for people who get in their notebooks that they have a lot of forgiveness." (Narrated by Ibn Majah 3950 from Abdullah bin Busr)
Based on that, let's say "Astaghfirullah al'azhim" so much. Hopefully Allah Ta'ala will protect us from 'adzab and any kinds of disasters. Aameen. Allahu a’lam.
