As-Salaam alaikum, Says Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, in the Holy Qur'an:--
"Say: if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your tribe and your wealth you have earned, commerce you fear may slacken, and the homes you love- are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His Way, then wait until Allah brings His Command." (Taubat- 9:25)
This ayat is explained by the hadith narrated by Anas Ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, and related by both Bukhari and Muslim, where the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-
"None of you will truly believe until am dearer to him than his children, his father and all people".
His words, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, "None of you will truly believe", means that no person's belief will be perfected or that the servant cannot attain the reality of true faith, until the Prophet is dearer to him with an affection or love much more than to his parents, children and the like.
In this regard, again, one's origin, peers, partners from women or men, nearest of kin, social group, money or wealth which you have earned, private homes, gardens, villas should NOT be loved more than Allah and His Messenger or else you wait until Allah brings about an immediate catastrophe in this life or manifest His Divine Wrath in the Next life.
It is therefore an obligation for to love him, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, the signs of which include:--
(a) Love for his tradition/hadeeth (b) Taking on his adaab- ie traits and excellent virtues in times of ease or hardship, joy or despair. (c) Mentioning him often by way of Salaat ala Nabiy, reflecting/thinking about him majority of time (d) Loving the Ahl-l-Bayt and the Sahabat (companions)-- both the Muhajjurun and the Ansar and being hostile to those who hate them...based on what was related by Ibn Asaakir on the authority of Jabir Ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said that the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:--"Love for the Ansaar is part of faith, and hatred of them is disbelief."
