Umrah is the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad. Our Prophet (PBUH) performed it 4 times throughout his life. There are a total of 4 steps for Umrah. Some said about Umrah that it is a journey to Masjid al-Haram, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The word Umrah is derived from the Arabic language, which means to visit a populated place.

What are the four steps of Umrah?
Following are the names and details of the 4 steps of Umrah: - Ihram
- Tawaf
- Sa'i
- Halq/Taqsir
Ihram:
Every particular journey has certain requirements, similarly, Muslims need unique clothing for Umrah. This unique dress is called Ihram. But its form is different for both sexes. Wearing every garment means covering the body parts. So Ihram comes in the same meaning.
Men should wear two unstitched white sheets to cover their body parts. Women should wear sewn clothes as they wear in normal life. Muslim men should naked their ankles when wearing shoes. But this prohibition is not for women. And men cannot cover their heads in Ihram, but women are free from it. It is important for women to keep their faces and both hands naked.
Tawaf:
Muslims perform Tawaf after reaching Masjid al-Haram where the Kaaba is located. They move around this cubic building in a circumambulation way. It is obligatory to circumambulate the Kaaba 7 times but start each circle from the position of Hajar Aswad (Black Stone). After that, two rak'at prayers should be offered behind Maqam Ibrahim. These two rakats can be performed in any other corner of the mosque due to the crowd.
Sa'i:
This step requires walking back and forth between the mountains of Safa and Marwah. A Muslim has to complete 7 laps between these two hills.
How to count these 7 laps?
First lap from Safa to Marwah. Returning to Safa from Marwah for the second lap. Third... from Safa to Marwah Fourth... from Marwa to Safa Thus, they will complete their 7 laps between them.
Halq/Taqisr:
After performing this final step of Umrah, every Muslim leaves the state of Ihram. And thus their Umrah will be completed. Halq and Taqsir are two terms, but the purpose of both is the same. Halq means to shave the head completely. Taqsir means cutting the hair to about an inch.
The purpose of Umrah is to bring oneself closer to the Lord of the Universe. It is mentioned in the Hadiths that Umrah erases sins like acid removes rust from iron. Muslims (elderly, women, children, and sick) can get the reward of Jihad after performing Umrah. Performing Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj.
