I have spent a couple of years researching religions...... since I did not feel christianity was the correct one.  After much research, reading, etc.... I concluded that Islam was the true religion.

I have read extensively on Islam, & was begining to become excited, when I realized that Muslims are fighting other Muslims everyday.   The divisions in Islam seem to be the same as other religions.

Can anyone offer any advice?  The books I've read, including the Quran, preach about Islamic peace & unity.

Sincerely,

Daoud

As-Salamu `alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
We commend your keenness on getting your self well-acquainted with Islam and its teachings, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake.
We would like to state the following points:
1. Muslims Should be United
It is a fact that Muslims today, are divided amongst themselves. The tragedy is that such divisions are not endorsed by Islam at all. Islam believes in fostering unity amongst its followers.

The Glorious Qur'an says:
"And hold fast,All together, by the rope Which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves;" [Al-Qur'an 3:103]

Which is the rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse? It is the Glorious Qur'an. The Glorious Qur'an is the rope of Allah which all Muslims should hold fast together. There is double emphasis in this verse. Besides saying 'hold fast all together' it also says, 'be not divided'.

Qur'an further says,
"Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger" [Al-Qur'an 4:59]

All the Muslim should follow the Qur'an and authentic Ahadith and be not divided among themselves.

2. It is Prohibited to make sects and divisions in Islam The Glorious Qur'an says:
"As for those who divide Their religion and break up Into sects, thou hast No part in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end Tell them the truth Of all that they did."
[Al-Qur'an 6:159]

In this verse Allah (swt) says that one should disassociate oneself from those who divide their religion and break it up into sects.

But when one asks a Muslim, "who are you?", the common answer is either 'I am a Sunni, or 'I am a Shia'. Some call themselves Hanafi, or Shafi or Maliki or Humbali, Salafi etc. Some say 'I am a Deobandi', while some others say 'I am a Barelvi'.

3. Our Prophet was a Muslim
One may ask such Muslims, "Who was our beloved prophet (pbuh)? Was he a Hanafi or a Shafi, or a Humbali or a Maliki?" No! He was a Muslim, like all the other prophets and messengers of Allah before him.

It is mentioned in chapter 3 verse 52 of Al-Qur'an that Jesus (pbuh) was a Muslim.

Further, in chapter 3 verse 67, Al-Qur'an says that Ibrahim (pbuh) was not a Jew or a Christian but was a Muslim.

4.Qur'an says call yourselves Muslim
If anyone poses a Muslim the question who are you, he should say "I am a MUSLIM". Surah Fussilat chapter 41 verse 33 says
"Who is better in speech Than one who calls (men) To Allah, works righteousness,
And says, 'I am of those Who bow in Islam (Muslim)?' " [Al-Qur'an 41:33]

The Qur'an says "Say I am of those who bow in Islam". In other words, say, "I am a Muslim".

The Prophet (pbuh) dictated letters to non-Muslim kings and rulers inviting them to accept Islam. In these letters he mentioned the verse of the Qur'an from Surah Ali Imran chapter 3 verse 64:
Say ye: "Bear witness That we (at least) Are Muslims (bowing To Allah's Will)." [Al-Qur'an 3:64]

5. Respect all the Great Scholars of Islam
We must respect all the great scholars of Islam, including the four Imaams, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi, Imam Humbal and Imam Malik (may Allah be pleased with them all). They were great scholars and may Allah reward them for their research and hardwork. One can have no objection if someone agrees with the views and research of Imam Abu Hanifa or Imam Shafi, etc. But when posed a question, 'who are you?', the reply should only be 'I am a Muslim'.

The Glorious Qur'an mentions in several verses, "Obey Allah and obey His Messenger". A true Muslim should only follow the Glorious Qur'an and the Sahih Hadith. He can agree with the views of any scholar as long as they conform to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sahih Hadith. If such views go against the Word of Allah, or the Sunnah of His Prophet, then they carry no weight, regardless of how learned the scholar might be.

If only all Muslims read the Qur'an with understanding and adhere to Sahih Hadith, Inshallah most of these differences would be solved and we could be one united Muslim Ummah

Bismillah, In the name of Allah,

Ameen, Brother Salman.

So, I'm a Muslimah who tries to follow the Quran and Hadith which do not contradict it.  (When people press me, it always comes out that I am Sunni.)

I think the fighting started with the murder of our blessed Caliph Omars, Uthman, and the slaugher of Hussein, our beloved prophet's grandson.

Daoud,

Brother Salman's advice to you is great.  Islaam is meant to unite and cause peace amongst humanity.  It is not designed to for despotic rulers or vengeful, violent folks.

I love Islaam because I learned self-worth and self-esteem are our duty in Islaam.  Also that no human blood sacrifice is ever necessary for our Loving Lord to forgive us, and that "He" is neither male nor female.  Also, our prophets were the best of human beings.  Why would Allah, The Most Glorious choose people who can't keep their pants on and can't be just and righteous to be His prophets?  Not!  It didn't happen!

For example, the Quran describes David as a pious, good man whereas other religions say he lusted after his friend's wife and had him killed in order to steal her from him.  How contradictory to Allah, The Most High, saying that He favors the best of people.

Brother,

If you have read so much about Islam, especially from the Quran, then you must have realized one thing: the presence of shaytan!

And he (shaitan (Satan)) said: "I will take an appointed portion of your slaves;
(  سورة النساء  , An-Nisa, Chapter http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=4&translator=5 - #4 , Verse http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=4&translator=5#118 - #118 )

(shaitan (Satan)) commands you only what is evil and Fahsha (sinful), and that you should say against Allah what you know not.
(  سورة البقرة  , Al-Baqara, Chapter http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=2&translator=5 - #2 , Verse http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=2&translator=5#169 - #169 )

Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah." And whoever takes shaitan (Satan) as a Walee (protector or helper) instead of Allah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.
(  سورة النساء  , An-Nisa, Chapter http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=4&translator=5 - #4 , Verse http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=4&translator=5#119 - #119 )

shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?
(  سورة المائدة  , Al-Maeda, Chapter http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=5&translator=5 - #5 , Verse http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=5&translator=5#91 - #91 )

O Children of Adam! Let not shaitan (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents (Adam and Hawwa (Eve)) out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiments, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinns or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, We made the Shayatin (devils) Auliya (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not.
(  سورة الأعراف  , Al-Araf, Chapter http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=7&translator=5 - #7 , Verse http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=7&translator=5#27 - #27 )

Most important, see the religion, you think it makes sense? You do believe Quran is  a book from Allah to guide you? Then do accept it. All humans are not alike...please do not be discouraged by seeing certain Muslims. Humans can be good or bad.....whether muslims or nonmuslims. Man is not perfect. Hence Allah has kept His forgiveness for us (and punishment if He wills). If you are convinced with Islam as religion, then Insha Allah nothing should stop you.

Ask Allah for guidance, He will show you the way. We pray for you..
wassalaam...

Some reasons for divisions are as Brother Salman clearly stated:

The Glorious Qur'an says:
"And hold fast,All together, by the rope Which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves;" [Al-Qur'an 3:103]

Which is the rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse? It is the Glorious Qur'an. The Glorious Qur'an is the rope of Allah which all Muslims should hold fast together. There is double emphasis in this verse. Besides saying 'hold fast all together' it also says, 'be not divided'.

An overwhelmingly ubiquitous reason Muslims and anyone else fights was succintly stated by Sister Amah:

A demonstration of Muslims fighting because they are listening to Shaytan is exemplified here:

Allah willing, we will strive for peace as our All-Knowing, Loving, Forgiving Lord who is neither male nor female instructs and encourages us to do.

Our Eternal Protector designed our religion knowing our human nature fully.  As hard as it is, "he" has ordered us to be peaceful and forgive each other so that "he" will forgive us.  No intercessor or savior necessary, just faith, sincerity, good intentions, and good actions.

May Allah, The Most High, grant you peace and guidance Daoud.

Daoud, all of God's living creations have multiplicities of systems that often compete and challenge each other.  Rocks are homogenous; trees and animals are not.

Congratulations.  I think you just proved Islam is alive
