Subject: Noah, the Ark and Noah’s sons

The Holy Bible says that Noah had three sons and they all boarded the ark and were saved.

The Qur'an says that one of Noah's sons refused to get on the ark and drowned.

According to the Qur'an which son drowned?

Thank you.

If the Flood and Noah's story is a religious myth, as the story of Adam and Eve, why bother which son drowned?

Cyril,

I think the flooding in Noah's time was just local, not global. However, the good news is that Noah was rewarded with the Seven Great Commandments, the prelude to the Ten.

Where in the Qur'an does it say that it was just a local flood?

Peace

No one has answered my question.  Which of Noah's three sons died according to the Qur'an?

Thanks.

George,

From you: "Where in the Qur'an does it say that it was just a local flood?"

Where in the Qur'an does it say that it was a global flood?

It was not global. There were other decent humans living all over the globe, not just Noah and his people. Why would God go and destroy the entire humanity over the globe?

Noah's people disobeyed God, transgressed and they were destroyed by floods. Perhaps, they lived most likely in a narrow valley and with forty days of rains, the water from rain and underground springs and sub-artesian flow caused huge swelling floods.

Where do you get the idea that it was a local and not global flood?

From you:

In whose eyes?

Which one of Noah's three sons died in the flood--local or global--according to the Qur'an?

Peace

George,

From you in response to my point: "There were other decent humans living all over the globe, not just Noah and his people. Why would God go and destroy the entire humanity over the globe?

In whose eyes?"

There were Africans (the mother of all humanity), Chinese, Indians (Dravidians) and cavemen living in the Borneo, Malaya, Aboriginees in Papua and Australia. Scientists have confirmed that the Aboriginees in Australia have been living there for the past 40,000 (Forty thousand years). If that Great Deluge were global, they would have perished too.

In whose eyes?

My eyes, George!

BMZ,

Which of Noah's three sons died in the flood according to the Qur'an?

It really is a simple question.  Please answer it.

Thank you very much.

Peace

George,

Your simple question: "Which of Noah's three sons died in the flood according to the Qur'an?

It really is a simple question.  Please answer it."

My answer: Qur'aan does not name the sons of Noah and it does not even name the one who drowned and died.

All I know is that a son of Noah died and the cause of death was drowning.

Perhaps, you can find out from the Bible. Qur'aan also does not tell us the number of sons, Noah had.

You are welcome.

From http://web.uvic.ca/~rpn/files/noah.html  The site references Islamic Legends by Knappert as the source for all except 6 & 8 which are from Qu'ran.  No news about Ham, Shem or Japeth.

The Prophet Noah lived during a time so corrupt that God decided he had to wash the earth clean of humanitys prevailing sinful nature http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [1] . God warned Noah of his plan because the Prophet was full of honesty and virtue, and therefore Noahs seed would be used as the basis for a new humanity http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [2] . The earth was to be submerged under water for forty days, during which time all humanity would be drowned, save Noah and his family http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [3] . Noah was instructed to build the Ark (Safina) by the exact measurements God provided him http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [4] , and inside there was to be made room for two of every kind of animal http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [5] .

Noah faced difficulties while constructing the Ark. http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/iblis.html - Iblis came to frustrate him in the form of a wild boar, but God used the blood of Noahs toil to create the Lion which chased the devil away http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [6] . The people of the earth mocked Noah for building the seemingly unnecessary boat, and they laughed at his warnings concerning Gods wrath http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [7] . Noah advised the people to head his counsel, he even pleaded with God to be merciful because his son was one of the disbelievers; but God rebuked Noah saying, So beseech Me not concerning that of which thou hast no knowledge http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [8] .

When the waters of the earth began to swell, and Noahs wifes bread-oven . . . poured forth boiling water, Noah knew it was time to enter the Ark http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [9] . The sea rose quickly and covered even the highest mountains all drowned except for those in the Ark. After forty days God commanded the waters to recede and the great ship came to rest on the mountains El Judi http://web.uvic.ca/%7Erpn/files/ref.html#4 - [10] . Therefore, all mankind traces their lineage through the Prophet Noah.

BMZ,

021.076
YUSUFALI: (Remember) Noah, when he cried (to Us) aforetime: We listened to his (prayer) and delivered him and his family from great distress.

PICKTHAL: And Noah, when he cried of old, We heard his prayer and saved him and his household from the great affliction.

SHAKIR: And Nuh, when he cried aforetime, so We answered him, and delivered him and his followers from the great calamity.

According to this Surah, Noah and his family were saved.

037.077
YUSUFALI: And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);

PICKTHAL: And made his seed the survivors,

SHAKIR: And We made his offspring the survivors.

This Surah confirms that Noah's seed survived.

011.042
YUSUFALI: So the Ark floated with them on the waves (towering) like mountains, and Noah called out to his son, who had separated himself (from the rest): "O my son! embark with us, and be not with the unbelievers!"

PICKTHAL: And it sailed with them amid waves like mountains, and Noah cried unto his son - and he was standing aloof - O my son! Come ride with us, and be not with the disbelievers.

SHAKIR: And it moved on with them amid waves like mountains; and Nuh called out to his son, and he was aloof: O my son! embark with us and be not with the unbelievers.

011.043
YUSUFALI: The son replied: "I will betake myself to some mountain: it will save me from the water." Noah said: "This day nothing can save, from the command of Allah, any but those on whom He hath mercy! "And the waves came between them, and the son was among those overwhelmed in the Flood.

PICKTHAL: He said: I shall betake me to some mountain that will save me from the water. (Noah) said: This day there is none that saveth from the commandment of Allah save him on whom He hath had mercy. And the wave came in between them, so he was among the drowned.

SHAKIR: He said: I will betake myself for refuge to a mountain that shall protect me from the water. Nuh said: There is no protector today from Allah's punishment but He Who has mercy; and a wave intervened between them, so he was of the drowned.

The Surahs above say that one of Noah's sons drowned.

BMZ is your argument that Noah had four sons and the fourth one died even though the Jews claim that Noah had 3 sons?  Why would the Jews hide the fourth son?  The Jews certainly are not kind to themselves in their scriptures.  An errant son would just be one more errant son among many.

Maybe you could come up with a more plausible explanation.

Peace

DavidC,

I think the Qur'an supports a global flood and not a local one.

When did I say that there was a fourth or a fifth son? I don't even trust the Jews when they say Noah had three sons. Except the BIBle, there is no other reliable evidence.

George, by the way, if you wish to quote me any verse, please quote me from any one translator. One would suffice.
