I was wondering since the moderators spend much time on IC, I had a suggestion that maybe the moderators could (if its possible) edit comments that are totally off topic. It makes perfect sense. If the subject is called "Why some dogs have blue spots?" and we are discussingg why Muslimahs wear Hijab it totally takes away from the conversation. I was hoping that to keep people align in discussion perhaps editing their comments and suggesting that they refrain from discussing another subject within the current topic or create a topic they wish to discuss.

Dont give them ideas Israfil... I cant believe even you would endorse this. This opens up a can of hornets and yellow jackets. The moderators already edit comments seemingly at random... Threads have a natural course and evolution and should be allowed to flow freely as such. *************************************************

ArabianKnight, I have deleted my post as perhaps I was unduly harsh.

I did not mean to be, I am just trying to understand you. I don't think anyone here has made you a target or specifically chooses you to be mean to. Therefore, I don't understand your reactions and responses.

I am asking, not just as a moderator but as a User, please be more considerate when posting.

I have nothing against you Mishmish... You're alright... If it means anything to you. Same goes for the other Moderators... except that new Rookie you got there.

I'm not a target.. and if I am... haha oh well.. I dont really care.  My Tenure here can be temporarly sealed with a few well placed key-strokes and mouse clicks.

What annoyed me the most in this instance was that the new Moderator Amah edited my post for her amusement. I said nothing out of line with "the guidlines".. and Calling her a Jerk for what she did was far more polite than what I originally intended. Which subsequently was also later Edited.. by You.. I guess. If Amah doesnt like me.. It doesnt matter, she can go fly a kite - but she shouldnt reflect that in her moderation.

I dont like the style of the moderation on this Board... it was not Like this when I first joined. Call it nostalgia or whatever.. but Currently Its more Arab, than Islamic... and there is a good distinction between the two.

There are things to learn here... and there is a level of socializing. Some people come here more for Socializing than for learning.. We're all humans, and somtimes some people are passionate. So what if harsh words start flying - it happens in real life, why not here?... Why Shut the thread down? Isnt this a virtual reality? Let people show their true colors with their words... artificial politeness is a dangerious facade. People will naturally become the paraiah among the community. Some are passionate about hating america.. oh well, I guess they wont be watching American Idol next season... But just because you silence them, doesnt mean they dont exist. No one is forcing the forum-goers to click on that thread and spend the 15 minutes reading the replys. If people say to you that words about Hating America or Hating Muslims is such an eye sore - tell them to go live in a bubble.. because thats how real life is. Its better to deal with the issues rather than running away from them. (Some famous wierd old guy must have said that some time in history.)

As for me being more considerate.. a pity you dont share my sense of humor, but sure thing pally.. i'll tone it down so long as people dont say somthing silly[see i'm being polite already] like "Pray he stays alive for a trial..." I think such words deserve alittle retribution.

You have to understand that it is serious offense to do any form of personal attack or attack on a group. Asking questions respectfully is one thing, and plainly attacking others without any reason is just another. And you have been warned many times before by Sister Khadija, yet you don�t stop this.

In the near past, you had problem with Sister Mishmish. And now you have problem with the new moderator, Sister amah.

This is not healthy attitude. Please comply with guidelines.

Besides ArabianKnight addressing the issue.....I understand I don't get a lot of respect from the moderators but can at least one of you address me? This is the point of my post. We tend to not address the author but rather, address the topics which are deviating. Can you please address me?

Sorry this has taken a while as it needed some consideration.

Once a topic is started it is like a conversation. It will naturally take twists and turns, ebb and flow,  and sometimes evolve into something else. It would be impossible for us to close down every thread that deviated a little from the original topic as that would be most of the threads on the forum.

If you originate a topic and feel that it has gone too far afield from what you wanted, you can either: request yourself that the topic get back on course, start a new thread, or use the "Report" button to alert the Moderators and we can warn the posters, then shut it down. Sometimes we are not aware something has gone awry until we get a report about it.

Short of these choices there is not much we can do. The Moderators do not want to become the "Forum Police" by having to shut down every thread that naturally veers off topic, nor do we want you to feel frustrated if you think all of your threads are being hijacked. If you alert us to a problem, we will take care of it on an individual basis.

We hope this addresses your concern.

Why close couldn't the post that has deviated be moved to a new thread ?

Although I think some of us have totally gone away from the topic of the da vicini code thread with the hijab issue

Sure. Anyone can start the new thread, or copy parts of the old onto a new one. We would just close it if it was out of hand, or the originator requests it, which happens.

Ok I seriously feel like Rodney Dangerfield cause I seriously feel I get no respect. Ok a couple topics I had were moved into a different section neither one with a clarification by the moderators as to why they were moved and both are arguable that either one specifically addressed to Muslim or to my Islamic faith. Now to the moderators now I understand that you guys maybe understaffed as far as moderating  and in that I'm not trying with my best intentions to give any of you guys are hard time. Although I do find that some decision may be made not by rules but because of personal reasons.

Now in certain subjects I have seen for example when we discuss how horrible America is it starts off initally as a discussion then it leads to desconstructive arguments that turn into bickering. Now my concern here is that the moderators create a system where if the post are deemed to be off track then kindly delete any post that with a kind reminder to make post directly relating to the subject. I don't see any problem with that seeing how I assume that the moderators every day review every post made on the forums I assume.

If you allow this, then this only allows misunderstanding as AbRah had made a subject similar where I thoiught it was addressing the movie "The Da Vinci Code" but really was addressing other things unrelating to the movie. If you don't at least correct this gray area then why correct others who bicker and thus? Basically it all leads to the same thing: The derailing of topics.

Can any moderators explain to me why a couple of topics I made we moved to Intrafaith area? One was made where anyone could address it and the other was in relation to science so why were they moved? (coming back to Editing my comment)

I'm with Israfil on this.  I went back and reread over several of the moved topics.  I'm still kinda foggy on why topics like "I'm Going to Hell" get moved to the Intra-Faith, when the topic was discussing the acceptance of other faiths and the disbelief that we can judge who is going to hell or not.  This is definitely a problem with many faiths.

Mormons - If you're not Mormon, you aren't getting into the Celestial Kingdom

Catholics - Shhh, they think their the only ones here (taken from an old joke, I love you Patty, not supposed to be a bounce on you.)

Muslims - The Kafir will feel the Hellfire

Jews - aaaahhh, your all crazy, we're the chosen of God

Born Agains - You must be Born Again of Jesus or you're doomed to Hell.....here, read this pamphlet. 

I'm sure I could make a list of Wiccans, Buddhists and others......

The fact is Israfil posted an interfaith discussion and yet the Moderators (who normally do a great job) randomly evoked the Rule #20 without really talking to the people of that thread or the thread creator. 

Question becomes, if Israfil posts another thread on religious tolerance in Interfaith, is it going to be moved again?????

Interfaith section: It is for Interfaith dialogue, where Muslims ( with references from main stream sources of Islam ) discuss with non-Muslims. We encourge that dialogue takes place in a cordial atmosphere on various topics including religious tolerance. Qur'an tells us: "Let there be no compulsion in religion". If a Muslim user believes in something that is contradictory to main stream Islam, he or she is welcome to discuss that in Intrafaith section, but not here.

Intrafaith section: Matters/topics, related to various sects, are discussed where only Muslims who may or may not belong to a sect take part.

Islam and Science section: It is devoted for Scientific topics that are relevant to Islam.

Islam for non-Muslim Section: Non-Muslims can ask questions about Islam, but discussion can not take place here.

These are some points.

In spite of previous reminders, it is being noticed that other users join in the thread here where only user with complaint ( topic starter ) should be able to converse with IC Moderators / Administrators. Therefore, this thread, unfortunately, will have to be closed.
