Topic: Suggestion on Banned Users

Subject: Suggestion on Banned Users
Date Posted: 05 June 2006 at 9:05am

I have recently heard several complaints that users are being banned without the reasons being completely clear.  Here is a suggestion.  When you ban a user, let the rest of us know why they were banned and/or reinstated.  That will give others knowledges as to what behaviors to avoid and it will let everyone know why they were banned.  One user has stated they were banned for being too harsh, yet I have witnessed others being far more harsh then he was being.  Yet, they are still posting away.  I have seen some very rude comments slip by many people without warning.  Is being harsh and rude a real reason to be banned?  Disrespect should be curbed on all fronts.  We are all God's children and we should act in a brotherly manner towards all, regardless of faith, creed or culture.

My suggestion is to just let us all know, who, why and when someone is banned.  This is a small courtesy to those of us who may have been speaking with these people or a small comfort to those that were being hurt by the individuals actions.

Thank you for all you do.

God Bless,

Angela

That's why I started this topic Annie.  That's often the reaction.  Huh?  Who?  Why????  It would be nice if the Moderators could just give everyone a heads up.

I agree, next time Salman gets the red card, I would like to know the extent of his foul play.

I also think that someone who the Moderators are thinking of banning should know exactly what they said that the Moderators object to and that the offending poster should have the opportunity to defend himself because maybe he or she has been misunderstood.

Also, what might to the fairest approach would be a banning for a certain period of time, maybe 3-7 days.  If the poster comes back and continues to disobey the rules, then it is their fault and the Moderators could be judged fair.

A Red Card is issued only once!  Perhaps, we should issue a Yellow Card first. Good suggestion.

Well, BMZ has only been a moderator for a couple of days. Give him time....

The Users who are banned are not just banned out of the blue. They get numerous warnings, some of which might be sent by PM, but most of which are posted for everyone to see. If you look at the threads you can see Warnings. Also, anytime we have to DELETE or EDIT something, that should be taken as a Warning, as you have clearly written something that should not have been written. If there is a Warning about using all BOLD type and you are using all BOLD type, consider yourself Warned. We may not specifically point each User out, but you know if you are doing it or not: your posts will have alot of BOLD type.

As far as closing topics, anyone can see when a topic has gone wrong or turned into name calling or trading insults. The names and insults are generally a good clue. There is no point in keeping these topics open as they serve no further purpose other than to spread hard feelings. We also might close a topic that has numerous complaints because it is clearly offending many Users. Inevitably there will someone who is upset because they were not offended, but as this is a public Forum, sometimes the good of the many outweigh that of the few.

First and foremost, it must be remembered that this is a religious Forum. So not all topics are appropriate, nor are all topics tolerated.

Salaams

I'm just saying it would be nice for a heads up.  I've seen warning fly all over.  Rami's threatened to ban me once.  But sometimes its rather out of the blue.

It would just be nice to say, hey, we banned Angela because she violated rules A, B and C after repeated warnings.  Or we banned Herjihad because she was proselyting the Hillbilly faith.

Bismillah,

Wow.  I really disagree with some of the things in this post!

Some people enjoy the bantering, like Whisper and Fredi.  As long as it's not disrupting someone else's topic, why not let them?

Some people don't think talking about rape as an issue is going to be pretty, but it is a trust from Allah to figure out how to solve the problems of the women and children and men that this has happened to.

I don't and didn't take it as a warning when numerous posts I have made have been deleted.  Please tell me it's a warning.  I don't want to guess -- most of us don't.

Salaams

I think that aside from swearing nobody should be banned at all.

Am I going to be banned for saying this??

No Megatron, you can say the word "this" as much as you like...as long as you don't attempt to make anagrams of the word.

As if Megatron's sentence should have looked like...

Am I going to be banned for saying, "This"??

So Herjihad said,

his t = this  same as  atty P = Patty

One word anagrams (where a single word is anagrammed into another single word) are sometimes referred to by wordplay specialists as transpositions. For example, "orchestra" is a transposition of "carthorse".

Another Anagram for THIS would be a naughty word for ummmm, well, you can figure it out......

Bismillah,

Not too naughty, but not allowable in IC guidelines.
