I saw an article yesterday where 1000 Muslim clerics called for the Pope's removal.  I wonder if they realize that a Pope can only be removed from office through death?

I agree about the Nun.  Youth are so important towards the future.  What we teach them will shape the world.  We all need to teach our children to have open minds and be concerned with humanity.  I really hope Ratzinger can smooth the ruffled feathers.  His predecessor did so much to foster interfaith relations.  I would hate to see Pope John Paul II's legacy destroyed.

I hope and pray that we the muslims accept his statement with respect, he has done mile to remedy the situation.

We are as spiritual people in this day and age can not afford to be at the logger head to each other. By right we are the light of the world, we are created by light to light the dark world.

Do shake hands, forgive one another and move on, there are works to do.

Thank you Sr. Hanan for the articles, which demonstrate the truth.  Surely the events of the last two weeks must have seen the demons in hell high-fiving to have achieved such a victory, as they would when believers oppose each other.  It merely confirms the prejudices of the radical secularists who not only deny Allah (swt), but seek to exclude Him from all public meaning.

Islam and Christianity certainly have disagreements, but they have many more agreements than are commonly realized and if we allow those disagreements to be all that defines us, rather than our agreements, then the demons are winning.

"It is true that the Muslim world is not totally mistaken when it reproaches the West of Christian tradition of moral decadence and the manipulation of human life," he said. "This imposes on us a serious examination of conscience."

"The truth of the Christian faith appears to us in all its depth, but we mustnt forget that, sadly, it has been darkened many times by the concrete behaviour of those who called themselves Christians," he said. "Islam has also had moments of great splendor and decadence in the course of its history. "

Cardinal Ratzinger stressed that it is "important is to go to the roots of the values proclaimed by the different religions". This, he said, is where "a real interreligious dialogue can begin".

It is well past time that rather than pitting believers as against each other we instead declare the enemy to be those trends to decadence from which none of us are immune.

One of the blessings of this age is that by modern communications and by openness of discussion we can all come to know each other better, and find those agreements.  We need not be restrained as much as we were in the past by the desires of human rulers and what they wanted us to know about each other for their exclusive ambitions.  And it is our duty to do so, even when it appears difficult, even futile--something which is clear from the Quran, and which the Bible assumes.  Let us not fritter away this opportunity.

Salaam all, and Mubarak Ramadan.

The Title is a little misleading, the Pope said that the culture of the West can't claim superiority to Islam, but of course as a Christian he believes his religion is the correct one, and superior to Islam.  No different than Muslims believing that Islam is superior to Christianity.  And that is peoples right to believe as they choose.

Anyway, this whole fiasco will hopefully lead to a true mending of fences, and dialogue between the two faiths, who have essentially ignored one another for the past 600 or so years.

I believe the devil is behind getting Christians and Muslims to fight while the real enemies moral relativism, humanism, and an the overall rejection of the One God quickly destroys societies and corrupts humanity.
