Last Summer the campaign for a sporting boycott of Apartheid Israel gathered momentum after Israel's bombing of Lebanon. In July a large pickett was held outside the Davis Cup Israel-Britain tennis tournament in Eastbourne. On the 3rd August a planned Israel-Scotland cricket match was cancelled after protests were announced. Protests have taken place over Arsenal's sponsorship deal with Israel.

The sporting boycott was an integral tool in the movement against South African Apartheid and can be used effectively to highlight Israeli apartheid. Sporting boycott actions often receive significant media attention in the UK, Israel and Palestine.

EDM 913

ISRAEL'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE EU

20.02.2007

Wyatt, Derek

That this House notes that the Israeli government has expressed the desire to upgrade its relations with the EU to the same level as Norway and Switzerland; further notes that this would include the ability to have free passage of goods, people and capital between the two entities; further notes that Israel remains in consistent violation of UN Security Council Resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention, has routinely prevented the free movement of Palestinian goods and people and has withheld Palestinian funds from their people; further notes that these and other grievous human rights abuses represent a clear breach of Article Two of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which calls for adherence to human rights laws; commends the International Development Select Committee's report into development assistance and the Occupied Palestinian territories, and in particular its recommendation that `the UK should urge the EU to use the Association Agreement with Israel as a lever for change and to consider suspending the Agreement until there are further improvements in access arrangements'; and urges the Government to insist that no upgrading of Israel's relations with the EU be considered until the Israeli government has brought itself into full compliance with international law, including the permanent lifting of all barriers to freedom of movement for Palestinian goods, people and capital.

It really beggars belief that a protest is to be held on Saturday ?

There will be no one there. There is an under 21 game at Wembley as well as the game in Israel. FFS the place will be empty.

Insha'Allah regardless, just showing defiance against such inherent racism is better than nothing

even if no-one is there it should get news coverage

I'm sure there was a kick racism out of football org which was contacted about this, insha'Allah there shud be some action

I don't think I agree.

Our best players are Arab Israelis/Palestinians. Finally they get a job and you
lot yank it?

I fear it's actions like these that decimate the ranks of human rights people
here in Israel.

Rather than Boycott I'd option to go and demonstrate at the match.
That makes for better coverage and less polarization.

But then again We are dealing with a football mind set here. Not the sharpest
tools in the shed
