What Abuzuhri shin heard at the Kefta Sandwich Tea Hut this afternoon of 17 July 2007 :

Putrajaya Notes

This is what we manage to jolt down during one of the teaching and zikr session of fuqara in Putrajaya one future day in 2008 :

A man kept company with the great sufi Abu Yazid Bistami for 30 years, he said: Master, I have fasted in the day and prayed in the night, and I left appetites and I did not find anything at all of what you mentioned in my heart. I believe and affirm all you said.

Abu Yazid said to him: because you are veiled by your nafs . He asked : Does this have a remedy, so that this veil can be lifted? Yes, he replied, but you will not accept it.

The man exclaimed : SubhnaLlah glory to Allah. Abu yazid said : your words are shirk ! He asked him : how ? Because you esteemed your nafs and so you glorify it !.

Be annihilated to mankind

And your secrets will appear to you.

then, he said:

The sphere revolves in you,

give light and shines

And the suns and moons disappear

and rise in you.

When I went in to (meet) Sh.Fayturi in Libya somewhere in 1977, his first words to me  were : The Path is one. The Gnostic cares nothing for the wirds or wazifas or silsilahs. All that matters is marifa of Allah.

We say to the seeker who is sincere in his quest : do not look for shuyukh or turuq, seek only istiqama and suluk (on the Path).

None miss him (the Shaykh) except the one who makes himself independent by his own opinion and thinks he knows more.

The Sufis say, Beware of opinion .why .not because it was evil or bad or dangerous but because it gives you kingdom. It enthrones and it enthrones  you in ignorance. Speculation is the way of ignorance. You speculate when you dont know. Tasawwuf is a science. Science is from knowledge, and it has no speculation.

We have three kind of knowledges. Who will take them. Who want them. And where he will get them. And where he will know he is not getting rubbish. Where will he know he has got the right thing ?

Bring a perfect murid and I will show you a perfect shaykh. Why ? Because its all in the hand of the muridin, but who they are ?

Where you can find such people ? ONLY A HANDFUL.

Imam Junayd walked through the streets of Baghdad and said : where will I find one man in the whole of Baghdad ? ..for receiving this highest knowledge of Allah.

The Task of Muqaddim

Sidi Abdul Kabir of Casablanca asked Wali of Bahlil: Now what do I do ? He said: the Muqaddim is before the fuqara like a donkey on which all the fuqara place the load of their troubles and burdens, and he is behind the fuqara like a dog, who runs behind them protecting them without them even knowing it.

What is the Muqaddim ? It means the ones who goes ahead. And it is a name of Allah alMuqaddimu, and it is a name of sayyiduna Muhammad sallaLlahu alaihi wasallam. What a tremendous name, and in it are the secrets of slavehood. Because everything that has an attribute of Allah, exalts Allah, and when it relates to us it bring us low.

From The Book of Stranger

The door (of the car) was opened, and a hand came out. The chauffer grasped it, and a figure robed in white jellaba and a voluminous white burnoose stepped onto the road. It was the venerable Shaykh and Saint of Allah, my Master  ( Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib).

I thought I was looking for him (in the desert) and there, in that remote place (between Fez and Meknes in Morocco), HE HAD FOUND ME. Page 95.

I SHALL NOT, CANNOT DESCRIBE HIM. IT WOULD NOT BE CORRECT. IT IS ENOUGH TO SAY THAT MY MASTER AND VENERABLE TEACHER WAS OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD.

HE WAS THE COMPLETE AND PERFECT MUHAMMADAN MAN, THE SHAYKH OF SHAYKHS, THE POLE OF THE UNIVERSE

When Hajj Issa Bryce came out of khalwa, Shaykh Fayturi said to him at the very point that he had arrived at knowledge, gnosis and lights, Now, you are a slave and servant of the fuqara. (the task of muqaddim)

Can you put a hat on it and be it ( a muqaddim) . Can you give me a hand ? I had met again and again people who say, Oh , I have given my hand (baaya) to a Shaykh. Well what is he doing with this collection of hands ? Is this tasawwuf ? Where is your heart ? This is not baayat. You cannot say it. Lovers hide their love. Real lovers hide their passion. They do not speak about it. False claimants boast about their amatory adventures.

Sidi Ali al-Jamal used to say :

Fold your hands, lower your eyes, do not move or I will fly away and  leave you.

There are group of Sufis from here (Tuscon, USA)..all the way to Karachi, from Karachi to Bangkladesh, from Bangladesh to MALAYSIA,  to INDONESIA, back around to California. But this, a few, just a few (murid), but it is nothing new. These have always been a few. That why they are called the elite.

Allahumma! Allah give us an Iman that is lasting.

O Allah, give us knowledge throughout our life

that draws us near to You. We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala, to keep us among the company of the Salihun.

We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala,

for a taste of the company of the Salihun.

We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala, to keep us in the circles of knowledge, to keep us in the company of the people of knowledge. We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala, to make us lovers of Him.

We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala, to give us a destiny which draws us always nearer to Him. We ask Allah, subhanahu wa taala, to give us a great expectation of His mercy and His light.

I first heard your Sufi joke as a Buddhist one.

The guy asked the vendor:

Can you make change?

The vendor replied:

"Change comes from within."

And here's another one:

"Why can't Buddhists vacuum in corners?"

Answer:  "Thay have no attachments"

P.S. I am very intrigued about the Sufis.
