SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, Abu Bakr and Umar (RA), greeting people with peace and mercy of Allah.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah saying the takir every time he went down or came up, or stood or sat, and he said the salam to his right and to his left: As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah, as-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah) until the whiteness of his cheek could be seen . And I saw Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah (WT) be pleased with them, doing likewise".

QUICK LESSONS:
Greeting people with peace & mercy of Allah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of greeting people with peace and mercy of Allah. It was narrated by Abdullah that he saw the Messenger of Allah greet people every time he went down or came up, or stood or sat. He would say “As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah” which means “peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah” until his cheeks became white from repeating it so much. Similarly Abu Bakr and Umar also did this to show their respect for others. This hadith teaches us to always greet each other with peace and kindness as it is a sign of respect for one another in Islam. We should also remember that we are all equal in front of God no matter who we are talking to so we should treat everyone equally with respect regardless if they are our friends or strangers.
