Patience in Prayer and the Rewards of Paradise & Punishments of Hell

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised his followers to not rush in prayer and reminded them of the rewards of Paradise and punishments of Hell.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "The Messenger of Allah led us in prayer one day, then he turned to face us and said: 'I am now your imam, so do not hasten to bow or prostrate or stand or leave before I do. I can see you in front of me and behind me'. Then he said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if you had seen what I have seen, you would laugh little and weep much'. We said: 'What have you seen, O Messenger of Allah ?' He said: 'Paradise and Hell'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Take your prayers seriously; Strive to perform your prayers with patience; Do not rush through your prayers; Focus on worshipping Allah SWT properly; Remember that Allah SWT sees all things both in front or behind you while praying; Laugh little and weep much when thinking about paradise & hell.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was reminding his followers to be patient during prayer. He said that if they had seen what he had seen - the rewards of paradise and punishments of hell - they would laugh little and weep much. This is a reminder for us to take our prayers seriously as it is an opportunity for us to gain reward from Allah SWT. We should strive to perform our prayers with patience so that we can reap its benefits in this life and the hereafter.

The Prophet ﷺ also reminded us that we should not rush through our prayers but rather take time with each movement so that we can focus on worshipping Allah SWT properly. We should also remember that Allah SWT sees all things both in front or behind us which means He knows what’s going on inside our hearts while praying as well as outside it.
