Fasting Not Necessary Every Day

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that fasting every day of one's life is not necessary.

It was narrated that 'Umar said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah and we passed by a man. They said: 'O Prophet of Allah, this man has not broken his fast for such and such a time'. He said: 'He has neither fasted nor broken his fast"'. 'Ata said: "someone who heard him told me that Ibn 'Umar (said) that the Prophet said: 'Whoever fasts every day of his life, then he has not fasted".

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Umar and Ibn 'Umar teaches us that fasting every day of our lives is not necessary. This hadith was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during a journey when they passed by a man who had not broken his fast for some time. The Prophet said that he has neither fasted nor broken his fast, implying that it is not necessary to fast every single day of one's life. This teaching encourages us to take breaks from fasting and enjoy our lives in moderation, as Allah has given us the blessing of food and drink for sustenance. We should be grateful for this blessing, but also remember to practice self-control in order to stay healthy and balanced in our daily lives.
