Encouragement to Fast on Three Days of the Week

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged fasting on three days of the week, which are Thursday, Monday and Tuesday.

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said: "The Messenger of Allah used to enjoin fasting three days: The first Thursday, and Monday and Monday".
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ هُنَيْدَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَأْمُرُ بِصِيَامِ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ أَوَّلِ خَمِيسٍ وَالاِثْنَيْنِ وَالاِثْنَيْنِ

The hadith narrated by Umm Salamah states that the Messenger of Allah encouraged fasting on three days of the week; Thursday, Monday and Tuesday.
