It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said: "When people brought their Zakah to him, the Messenger of Allah would say: 'O Allah, send salah upon the family of so-and-so,' My father brought his Sadaqah to him and he said: 'O Allah, send Salah upon the family of Abu Awfa"'.
The Prophet Muhammad's practice was to not only thank those who gave charity but also to pray for their families as well. This shows us how important it is to remember our loved ones in our prayers as well as ourselves; it is a reminder that we are all connected in some way or another and that we should look out for each other's wellbeing too.
