No Sadaqah on Slaves and Horses

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad taught that Muslims do not have to pay Sadaqah on their slaves or horses.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah and attributed to the Prophet: "The Muslim does not have to pay Sadaqah on his slave or his horse"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care of your possessions & use them responsibly; fulfill your obligations towards those less fortunate than yourself; practice fairness & justice in all matters related to charity/sadaka/zakat .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that Muslims are not obligated to pay sadaqa, or charity, on their slaves or horses. This is because these two things are considered possessions of the Muslim and it would be unfair for them to have to give away something they own as charity. The Prophet Muhammad was teaching us a lesson in fairness and justice here, as well as reminding us of our obligations towards those who are less fortunate than ourselves. He was also teaching us about the importance of taking care of our possessions and using them responsibly. We should remember this lesson when we think about how we use our resources today, both material and spiritual ones.
