The Importance of Charity

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that charity should be given to those in need, starting with oneself and one's family.

He said: 'Spend it on your wife'. He said: 'I have another'. He said: 'Spend it on your son'. He said: 'I have another'. He said: 'Spend it on your servant'. He said: 'I have another'. He said: 'You know best (what to do with it)"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously when you can
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of charity and generosity. It is narrated by Abu Hurairah that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Give charity”. When a man told him he only had one Dinar, the Prophet advised him to spend it on himself first. He then suggested spending it on his wife, son and servant before finally saying “You know best” when asked what to do with any remaining money. This shows us that we should prioritize taking care of ourselves and our families before giving away our wealth in charity. However, we should also remember to give generously when we can as this is an important part of being a good Muslim.
