The Procedure of Li'an

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad conducted a procedure of Li'an between two people.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah conducted the procedure of Li'an between the Ajlani and his wife, who was pregnant".
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ لاَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بَيْنَ الْعَجْلاَنِيِّ وَامْرَأَتِهِ وَكَانَتْ حُبْلَى

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the procedure of Li'an which was conducted by the Prophet Muhammad. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah conducted this procedure between two people - one called Ajlani and his wife who was pregnant at the time. This procedure is a form of legal testimony in Islam where both parties involved in an accusation make an oath to God to prove their innocence or guilt. If one party is found guilty then they are punished according to Islamic law. The purpose of this hadith is to show us that even though we may not always be able to tell who is telling the truth in certain situations, we can still rely on God's justice and trust that He will make sure justice prevails in all cases. It also teaches us that it's important for us to be honest and truthful when making accusations against someone else so as not to cause any harm or injustice towards them.
