Removing Images from the Home

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to pray facing a cloth with images on it, but later asked his wife Aishah to take it away.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "In my house there was a cloth on which were images, which I put in a niche of the house, and the Messenger of Allah SAW used to pray facing it. Then he said: 'O 'Aishah, take it away from me'. So I took it down and made it into pillows'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for religious activities, mindfulness when engaging in worship, avoiding distractions while praying or worshipping Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of removing images from one's home. It was narrated by Aishah that in her house there was a cloth with images on it which she put in a niche of the house and the Prophet Muhammad used to pray facing it. However, he later asked her to take it away and she made it into pillows instead. This hadith teaches us that we should not have any kind of image or idol in our homes as this can be distracting when praying or worshipping Allah. We should also be mindful of what we have around us when we are engaging in religious activities such as prayer so that nothing distracts us from focusing on Allah alone.
