Taking Care of Belongings

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of taking care of one's belongings and not neglecting them.

It was narrated that Abu Razin said: "I saw Abu Hurairah clap his hand to his forehead and say: 'O people of Al-'Iraq, you claim that I tell lies about the Messenger of Allah SAW. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah SAW say: If the strap of the sandal of one of you breaks, let him not walk in the other until he fixes it'."
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَضْرِبُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ يَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْعِرَاقِ تَزْعُمُونَ أَنِّي أَكْذِبُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلاَ يَمْشِ فِي الأُخْرَى حَتَّى يُصْلِحَهَا

This hadith emphasizes the importance of taking care of one's belongings. It was narrated by Abu Razin that he saw Abu Hurairah clapping his hand to his forehead and saying that people in Al-'Iraq were claiming he was lying about the Prophet Muhammad's teachings. He then bore witness that he heard the Prophet Muhammad say that if a person's sandal strap breaks, they should not walk in just one sandal until it is fixed. This hadith teaches us to take good care of our possessions and not neglect them or leave them broken for long periods of time.
