The Advice of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the advice given by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Abu Hashim bin 'Utbah, which was to not accumulate wealth and instead use it for the cause of Allah.

It was narrated that Samurah bin Sahm said: "I came to Abu Hashim bin 'Utbah when he was suffering the plague, and Mu'awiyah came to visit him. Abu Hashim wept. Mu'awiyah said to him: 'Why are you weeping? Is it because of some pain that is hurting you, or is it for this world, the best of which has gone?' He said: 'Neither, but the Messenger of Allah SAW gave me some advice, which I wish that I had followed. He said: "Perhaps you will live to see wealth that will be distributed among the people when all that would suffice you of that would be a servant and a mount to ride in the cause of Allah". I lived to see that, and I accumulated (wealth)'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the advice given by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Abu Hashim bin 'Utbah. When Mu'awiyah visited him while he was suffering from plague, Abu Hashim wept and Mu'awiyah asked him why he was weeping. He replied that it was because he wished that he had followed the advice given by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The advice was that if one accumulates wealth, they should use it in the cause of Allah rather than using it for their own benefit. This teaches us an important lesson which is to not be too attached to worldly possessions and instead use them for a greater purpose such as helping others or serving Allah's cause. We should also remember that all our possessions are temporary and will eventually be taken away from us when we die so we should make sure to spend them wisely in this life.
