The Blessing of Not Asking for Governorship

SUMMARY: It is better to not ask for a position of power, as if it is given to you without asking, Allah will help you in it.

It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said: 'Do not ask for governorship. For if it is given to you because of asking, you will be left to your own devices, but if it is given to you without asking, you will be helped (by Allah)'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should not ask for positions of power or authority such as governorship. If we are given this position without asking, then Allah will help us in it and make sure that we are successful. However, if the position is given to us because we asked for it, then we will be left alone and have to rely on our own devices. This hadith encourages us to be humble and trust in Allah’s plan instead of trying to take matters into our own hands. We should also remember that with great power comes great responsibility and so if we do find ourselves in a position of authority or governance then we must use this responsibly and strive towards justice and fairness.
