Disputes and Judgement

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned people not to accept a judgement in their favor if it goes against the rights of another person, as it is like taking a piece of fire.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that: The Messenger of Allah SAW said: "You refer your disputes to me, but I am only human, and some of you may be more eloquent in arguing their case than others. If I pass judgment in favor of one of you, against his brother's rights, let him not take it, for it is a piece of fire that I am giving him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for justice and fairness when settling disputes.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we are in disputes with others and seek judgement from the Prophet Muhammad SAW or any other authority figure, we should not accept a judgement that goes against the rights of another person. This is because such judgements are like taking a piece of fire - they can cause harm to both parties involved. We should always strive for justice and fairness when settling disputes.
