Compassionate Sale of a Slave

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) sold a man's slave for 800 Dirhams and gave the money to him so he could pay off his debt and provide for his dependents.

It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said: "A man among the Ansar stated that his salve was to be set free after he died; he was in need, and he owed a debt. The Messenger of Allah SAW sold him (the slave) for eight hundred Dirhams, and he gave (the money) to him and said: 'Pay off your debt and spend on your dependents'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) compassionate sale of a slave. The man was from the Ansar, an Arab tribe, and he was in need and owed a debt. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) sold the man's slave for eight hundred dirhams, which is an ancient form of currency used in Arabia at that time. He then gave this money to the man so he could pay off his debt and spend on his dependents. This hadith teaches us that it is important to be compassionate towards those who are in need or have debts, as well as providing for our dependents. It also shows us how generous and kind-hearted the Prophet Muhammad was towards others, even if they were not part of his own tribe or community.
