Seeking Refuge from Debt and Sin

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) often sought refuge from debt and sin, and when asked why, he explained that debt can lead to lying and breaking promises.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW often used to seek refuge (with Allah) from debt and sin. It was said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah! You often seek refuge from debt and sin?' He said: 'If a man gets into debt, he speaks and lies, and he makes a promise and breaks it'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek refuge with Allah from debt & sin; Be honest in all dealings; Strive not to get into financial difficulty; Make sacrifices if necessary for honesty; Avoid activities that may cause harm or distress in life.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of avoiding debt and sin. He often sought refuge with Allah from both of these things, as they can lead to negative consequences such as lying or breaking promises. This hadith serves as a reminder for us to stay away from activities that could potentially cause harm or distress in our lives. We should strive to be honest in all our dealings, even if it means we have to make sacrifices in order to do so. Additionally, we should also try our best not to get into any kind of financial difficulty which could lead us down a path of dishonesty or broken promises.
