Seeking Refuge From Allah

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge from Allah from being overwhelmed with debt, overpowered by the enemy and the enemy rejoicing over misfortunes.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As that: The Messenger of Allah SAW used to say these words in his supplication: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dain, wa ghalabatil-'aduwwi, wa shamatatil-a'da'. (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from being overwhelmed with debt, from being overpowered by the enemy and from the enemy rejoicing over my misfortunes)'"
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حُيَىُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلاَءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْعَدُوِّ وَشَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As speaks of a supplication that Prophet Muhammad [SAW] used to make. In this supplication, he asked Allah for protection from three things - being overwhelmed with debt, being overpowered by an enemy and the enemy rejoicing over his misfortunes. This hadith teaches us to always seek refuge in Allah in times of difficulty and distress. It also reminds us that we should not be ashamed or embarrassed to ask for help when we are in need of it. We should always remember that no matter how difficult our situation may seem, Allah is always there to help us out if we turn to Him in sincere prayer and supplication.
