Sunan Abi Dawud 185 (Book 1, Hadith 185) #20476
Skinning Animals Without Ablution

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) showed a boy how to skin a goat without touching water and then went on to lead the people in prayer without performing ablution.

Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri: The Prophet passed by a boy who was skinning a goat. The Messenger of Allah said: Give it up until I show you. He (the Prophet) inserted his hand between the skin and the flesh until it reached the armpit. He then went away and led the people in prayer and he did not perform ablution. The version of Amr added that he did not touch water. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated though another chain of transmitters, making no mention of Abu Sa'id.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic laws, Respect for animals

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's demonstration of how to skin an animal without needing to perform ablution. He showed a boy how to do it by inserting his hand between the skin and flesh until it reached the armpit. After this, he led people in prayer without performing ablution himself. This hadith teaches us that when we are doing certain activities such as skinning animals, we don't need to perform ablutions before praying if our hands are not dirty or wet from what we were doing. It also shows us that even though Prophet Muhammad was a great leader and teacher, he still followed Islamic laws just like everyone else.
